Phil Height dynamicalised his game as part of our Business of Golf programme.

Phil had been playing golf for 8 years and went off a handicap of 14.2 although during competitions he never played to handicap.  He attended our Business of Golf programme last year and set himself a goal - to lower his handicap to 11 by the end of December 2007.

Phil is controller within the civil service and manages 5 teams of 6 people. Within his business objectives he wanted to focus on communication and developing team leaders. Business wise we focused on leadership styles, communications understanding communication models and how to motivate people.  We covered off rep systems, strategies (how to motivate people by understating theirs strategies and influencing skills) all of which gave a tangible, practical element to use back in business.

Now to the golf – this was Phil’s main focus.  Phil was happy with his short game, putting and attitude and was looking to improve his game off the tee, long iron and thought processes.  Working off the tee we focused on the pre shot routine, Iain worked on some physical drill to ensure consistency of shot and then we did the mind stuff.  With simple techniques that took approximately 45 seconds we changed the internal dialogue that Phil was using and we also changed his mindset on his clubs. Phil loves his Scottie Cameron putter (maybe a little too much!) and was not too keen on his drivers. By setting up some key anchors he now thinks in the same way about his drivers the same way as his Scottie Cameron.  Other techniques such as visualisation and hypnosis were used to embed all the changes – it was beautiful to watch Phil consistently hit straight shots off the tee rather than his previous tendency to hook – we laughed as he refused to stop hitting balls – he could not believe it himself.

Simple techniques with big impact!

2 days following the course I received this email -

"Hi Kirsty I played both on Friday and Saturday morning and it is the most consistent I have ever played – Saturday was a Stableford game in which I scored 30 points, 3 under my handicap."

28th Dec!

"I played off 7 today how fab is that!!"
